I just saw a report

I just saw a report that the United States has been quietly collecting the change left behind in the bins at metal detectors in airports for the U.S. General Fund. In 9 months, this has added up to a $250,000!

Here's what I say, let's start letting people contribute their change from purchases to the government defecit. I'd gladly contribute my 48 cents change at Amigos, 22 cents are the gas station and 18 cents from Cold Stone. I wonder how much U.S. Currency is lost in couches, beaches, and other places all over the world.

All that said, don't raise my taxes, and don't make people give their change, just offer the ability to. This would be an easier way to get people to contribute (esp. if this is earmarked for the defecit which would be a requirement for me, no government waste here), as even John Kerry won't check the box in Mass. to pay the higher tax rate. But a bit of change every week, that doesn't hurt, and it would add up.
