Brain Damage
I've been busy getting everything set up nicely on my days that I don't spend curled up in the third floor lounge couch at Kauffman. Things have really come together and besides needing a new able cord and needing to run ethernet cable down, the room is just about where I want it.
Next week I'm going to San Francisco (on Northwest unfortunately) to check out Call of Duty: Finest Hour. We're staying at the Drake, checking out the game, and then heading out to Midway Paintball for a little paintball action.
Should be a good time, I'm also looking forward to spending this weekend over at Kauffman and checking out my Huskers as they take on the Kansass Jayhawks.
I'm still hoping for a callback on a job, but it's not seeming good. Going to call a few places tomorrow and see what happens.
Class all day tomorrow, then it'll be time for Survivor: Vanuatu and then the debate between President Bush and Senator Kerry. My money is on Bush, but this is definitely a scary debate. Both candidates really need this debate.
I also set up all my toys today including a couple of Spider-Man action figures I got and a Metal Gear Solid one, plus a couple Street Fighter busts. Good stuff. I'm going to move the game systems around as soon as I get ethernet down here... I just need to figure out where the hell to put the Xbox Debug.
I'm not sure what to do with things right now. I'm in a period of transition and it's sorta weird. I don't really have the same level of confidant as I did have. I feel a little lonely, a little bottled up. I really want to start working and just convert some of this pointless time into money. May start a broader search this weekend, not my favorite idea to just cast a line and take what I can get, but sometimes you do what you have to do.
Is there some sort of feeling slowly returning to me? Am I just imagining it? When you feel numb for so long it's hard to tell if you're feeling something or you're just imagining it. Some of me I think we being relit when I sat down for long conversations with Stolee, Johnson and Travis in the past few days.
More on all of this later has things begin to return to me. Right now I think I'm too close to it all to know what's going on.

DVD/Game Shelf
I finally got to move around my DVD/Game shelves and getting them organized. Turns out I'm missing my copies of The Animatrix and The Matrix. Up to nearly 150 DVDs now. though I have slowed down in recent months. Game collection has been staying at a constant area thanks to packing away the shit. Only the good/current stuff makes that shelf (mostly).
My DVDs.
My games, not counting builds and stuff that has been moved into the archival closet.

Everyone in the room gets the clap
So Donkey Konga is my newest music game love. It comes with a set of bongo drums. You have to play the left or right drum, both drums together, or clap in rhythm with the music. There is a wide range of stuff from Bingo, to The Pokemon theme, to the Crystal Method to the Zelda theme.
What's more fun is that the people that aren't playing (as I only have one set of drums) can all clap since the microphone doesn't know who is doing it. We woke Landon up a few times with this. But we need some illustrations:
Stolee likes my drums.
Even the Koala was in on the action.
Thank you Laura for making my blog funnier.
Lincoln gets into his rhythm games.
Everyone claps together!
Laura actually plays the drums instead of playing with the drums.
Lori and Stolee practice teamwork!

But nighttime is just so much more interesting
So last night Stolee and I had to go pick up Lori from the train station. Laura tagged along to get her roommate, and we eventually laid in a course to get some shakes. Unfortunately the bastards at Amigos had taken down the shake machine - so to McD's it was!
Note this picture was taken with my camera out the window while driving forty miles an hour.
Laura can't believe what I'm doing with my camera (or alternate subtitle: Four batteries? Or just three? You decide).
Yay for Drive-thru at one in the morning!
Laura is lactose intolernt, but fries work just as well for a late night snack.
Stolee likes his shake.
This post has made me hungry,

Driving Driving Driving.
After stopping into a rather quiet Kaffuman. I eventually took a ride in the MG out West of town to get away from the lights and check out the night stars and nearly full moon. It's really pretty when you get away from the city, and I know I have the huge problem of really enjoying the country and a big, big, city. *Sigh*.
Always good to get some thinking done, so I was playing the Classic rock tunes, I had my leather jacket out for the first time of the "fall" and I even was wearing gloves given the cool night air blasting me outside of town.
One small problem has arisen with my car. Apparently while filling it with gas I put a little much in and started a gas leak somewhere. I've always suspected a leak, but now I know i have a relatively major one. I drove it quite a bit and used a lot more gas than I should've.
I'll be trying to fix this (as well as washing my baby) tomorrow.
More updates then? Who knows, Fable/Donkey Konga could absorb me.

Happy Birthday M&M!!!
One of my best friends turned 21 this past week, so after his bar crawl on Thursday, Friday night became a night for the under 21ers in the group to hang out, drink, and celebrate the birth of our dear M&M.
While M&M started with cans...
...he eventually graduated to the big boy's mug.
Josh took a dare... the bad part was when he took his pants off his boxer's fly was open and I got a glimpse of well... you know... I had to finish my drink.

Confessions of a not so dangerous mind
Alright, I've got all of the photo blogging done, a little recap of what has happened. It's been sort of a whirlwind of emotions recently.
We had a farewell to Beermann last week as we went to Tico's, played games, watched at Atlantis, and then the next morning watched the football game. Now one of my best friends from college lives in Kansas City, and to be honest, I don't think things will be quite as lively around here without him. That afternoon, Sarah broke up with me.
Talk about system shock when two of the people closest to you check out in their own way. I see this as yet another chapter of my story closing. It's always a little bit terrifying to have what you know end, and know that something new will soon begin.
There is an anticipation to it. In some ways I'm looking forward to the opportunity that the future holds. Discovering other people, finding new adventures to have, meeting new friends to take the place of the old in my daily life.
Maybe this means I'm taking the whole thing rather well? I guess that's one way of looking at it. God never closes a door without opening another one. So where is that door? What adventure lies behind it? Who else is going to be along for the ride?
My own life is like a book that I'm reading, and I must say it's pretty damn intriguing at times. The big problem with it is that you can't flip a few pages forward to find out what happens next.
One thing I think I have learned though is that focusing too much on what happens in the future isn't always the best thing. Sometimes what is happening right now - the people in your life and their events is more important than wondering what the future holds and just enjoying the experience of getting there.
So to all of my friends who read this, thank you for being there for me. I love all you guys and am looking forward to years of late night conversations, games of cards, walks on the beach (for the L.A. crew, Travicon and Whonder), football games, road trips, and whatever the hell else we may do. You guys are the best, and I can't imagine my current life without you.
Some of you I've known for years, others only a few weeks or months. I value each of you though. If there is one thing this past week has done more than anything is remind me to value those who are around me and who I can see every day and be a part of their life. Our time together is too short.
Looking forward to many more late nights and cups of coffee (or other drinks of substance ;-)),

My life - a quick catch-up.
So, things have been more than a bit crazy recently. I've been closing magazine issues left and right, struggling to get builds from game companies ahead of deadlines, struggling with the reality of being single again, busy playing games, running around with my head cut off.
I just got done watching the finale of The Amazing Race with Nick, Johnson (for the first 30 minutes), Jordan, and Laura. It's proof that good does triumph in the end, and I'm glad it wasn't a Flo and Zach finish like a couple seasons ago. I wish I could do the Luge challenge - the maze was pretty cool too.
I was up till 4 last night watching stuff on my new Star Wars DVDs. Good stuff, though the audio is a bit fucked up in A New Hope. I do like the changes George made (in general) and if nothing else, I don't dislike them.
I applied at Software Etc. and EBx last week, I'll probably call them tomorrow as I'd really like to start investing some of my week in order to make some money. Money is a good thing - and I have a lot of extra time that could very well be translated to money for trips to The Big Island, Europe and beyond.
It was very rainy today --- I had the thought as I was walking to Business Law that my prof for that class is the kinda guy who would cancel class because he doesn't want to walk in the rain. When I got to class, it was canceled and the test pushed back... I betcha it was the rain.
Also speaking of teachers, I love it when you get something wrong on a quiz but it's graded as right... Acing a quiz in college is always a minor thrill for me, given how poorly (relatively) I did my first two years in JDE classes.
Finally, I just about have made up enough frequent flier miles on the year to get elite status on United. Upgrades to first class here I come. I think it'll be fun to board in shorts along with all of the old guys in business suits.

Star Wars Trilogy
After years of waiting, the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD has finally been released. While we were short a Brad and extra a Zimmer, Knapp, Dave Reid and I made the voyage to pick up a midnight DVD at the local Best Buy.

The Fellowship of the Trilogy
Open late, real late.
The mob comes in to consume the Trilogy, Battlefront and some other DVDs.
Knappster gets his copy - after they remembered to mark the price down. Some people paid the 10 dollars more and then had to go to the refund counter... suckers.
Dave Reid does the time honored DVD-hump.
We miss you Brad!

L.A. Craziness
I had to fly to L.A. during the recent radio outages... it resulted in some yellow flight listings:
Delayed, Delayed, Canceled... At least I made it though! What was a weird night continued when I reached my hotel living room.
My hotel room in L.A. recently had a conference room, this freaked me out.
There was even a markerboard - I could play Win Lose or Draw with myself!!
Spider-Man welcomes visitors to the Neversoft offices.

First Husker Loss, Southern Miss
Wow, it is pathetic how little I've updated considering this game was over a week ago. This was a painful game to watch as Nebraska outplayed Southern Miss in every phase of the game except the scoreboard and turnover margine. My brother Josh made the game which was a blast as I love hanging out with him and checking out Husker games.
There was an awesome patriotic display before the game though where we all held up colored cards.
Everyone held up the American Flag side until we heard the rockets red glare.
Then everyone flipped the cards over, Stars east and west...
...stripes in the north and south.
My brother enjoyed the game, even though we lost.
But Beermann was disappointed in the last home game of his residence in Lincoln.
We beat PItt last week, and have a week off before playing Kansas.

L.A. for Dinner!
So I recently had the opportunity to fly out to L.A. to see my good friends Whonder and Destroyer of Worlds .
Here's Destroyer grabbing Whonder's crotch.
Their cat is a dangerous creature and there are many toys to attempt to ward them off.
This is a little blurry, long shutter of L.A. at night from a pier, pretty cool.
The breakfast of champion business men (and videogame journalists) around the world.

Fast times at Nebraska U
Sorry about the lack of posting, I've been to California, avoided radio outages, had about 20 games or so arrive this week, had my relationship shatter on the rocks, had classes, a quiz, the opening night of Survivor, Beermann is leaving on Saturday, dinner for him tonight, games and Atlantis after that, football tomorrow morning at Jesse's to send off the Beermann.
Then I really need to finish wiring my house and get all my shit in the basement and organized. Plus I have to play four games through to write reviews for Surge by Monday. Hopefully I'll catch Sky Captain this weekend as well.
If I get a chance, I have a bunch of photo updates, and I probably have some thoughts that I can share.

Tidbits
First things first, Missouri just lost to Troy 24-14.
Mark is shocked at Missouri disgracing the Big XII by losing to a Sun Belt team... WTF?
In other news, Jerry "Master of all our domains" Seinfeld will be appearing in Lincoln and tomorrow morning I'm going to go get myself a rather pricy ticket to see the man-God in all of his glory.
Nebraska has to play Southern Miss this weekend. There are two potential outcomes:
or:
I think it is obvious which is which.
Moving on. Does this disgust you too?
Finally, from the stupidity section - it appears 60 Minutes (as well as the AP, CNN and others) have been duped into believing certain Bush Guard records were real --- when in fact, they were forgeries. Well done boys... a 1970s typewriter produced a superscript "th" on a memo... suuuuuuuure.
Tomorrow, Seinfeld tickets, Job aps, Resident Evil 2, sleep, and then it's football Saturday.

Mountain Dew - Pitch Black
What is a sign that Mountain Dew is making a shit ton of money off of fools who decide to try every new type of Mountain Dew that comes out? Let's review!
Mountain Dew - been around for a long fucking time, we all drink this.
Mountain Dew: Code Red - introduced cherry flavored Mt. Dew and is a huge success, becomes official enough that fountain machines begin to dispense it.
Mountain Dew: Livewire - My personal favorite of the new Mt. Dews. This is the orange flavored Dew that appeared last summer, I was addicted and then it went away. It was reintroduced this past summer and I guess I can look forward to it every summer.
Mountain Dew: Baja Blast - As previously discussed in this blog, Baja Blast is the tropical punch/lime version that is sold only at Taco Bell. Kinda icky on its own, drinkable with spicy food. Damn, this is making me want Taco Bell.
And now, the newest edition of the Mountain Dew Family.....
Pitch Black is grape Mt. Dew that is very sweet. One weird part was that the area around my ice was blue as I poured it in while the rest of the glass of it was dark purple.
It's not too bad, but it's not nearly has inhalable as Livewire and regular old Dew... that's the only bad part. Apparently this is a limited edition this, which will probably be here for a couple months, disappear for a year, and then resurface so we buy it again.
Interesting marketing strategy by Pepsi for sure.
I have a History of Rock and Roll test tomorrow. Southern Miss game on Saturday. Finance quiz on Tuesday and then Tuesday night I fly to L.A. and will have dinner with Whonder, Destroyer of Worlds, Travicon and The Laa (maybe). Then it's a Tony Hawk's Underground 2 event the next day and a flight back. Yay for frequent flier miles.

Are you ready for some football?!
After 9 months of waiting the Bill Callahan era at Nebraska has arrived. The last two weeks of school have had me so amped up for this game it was unbelievable.
Nebraska destroyed Westerin Illinois 56-17, and we ran for more yards in this first game with a "pass-happy" offense than we ran for last year in any game. The special teams weren't so special, but I'm sure we'll work it out for this week's date with Southern Miss.
The band plays up while I watch from my viewpoint in the southeast corner of the stadium.
First touchdown!
Swid and Rusty swallow some meat.
Tons to smile about, but the sore throat is going to kill tomorrow!
Even Travis was smiling!!!
This would be funnier if it wasn't actually water.
We don't know this guy, he was just as surprised as I was that Laura took his picture.
Sorry Angie, but that's some nasty cheese.
After the first win, the Huskers are 1-0!!! Next Saturday, Southern Miss.

Our State Fair is a great State Fair
Last Friday, Swid, Beermann, Sarah and I went to the Nebraska State Fair.
On the way, we ran into this cool sign.
There are some wonderful treats (If you could call them that) at the fair.
The petting zoo features some large testicles.
We eventually hit up the rides and Beermann featured an evil evil grin.
See Will. See Swid. See Swid about to hit Will.
The Midway is pretty at night.
And all of this only cost me an arm and a leg. More on this weekend's football game later.
