Dubachery

I just realized I'm voting for smoking, gambling and Bush this election. I think I need to make a bumper sticker or something.

This Place...

Ther're guards at the on ramps armed to be teeth
And you may case the grounds from the cascades to puget sound,
But you are not permitted to leave

I know there's a big world out there like the one i saw on the screen
In my living room late last night,
It was almost too bright to see
And i know that it's not a party if it happens every night
Pretending there's glamour and candelabra
When you're drinking by candlelight

What does it take to get a drink in this place?

What does it take, how long must i wait?

From This Place is a Prison, by The Postal Service. Amazing how that captures some of my feelings about the world I live in.

Awakening

I'm back. I feel. And it's good. There's been some crazy shit going on. I essentially found out some things I thought weren't true actually were, the true nature of my feelings about some things and learned I wasn't the only one. I've taken some risks, had some of them pay off and on others the dice are still rolling. I listened to my Huskers get drilled on the radio, and somehow it didn't hurt so bad. Maybe I'm used to it. In the last 3 caLendar years there have been 15 Nebraska losses. That is one less than there were in the entire 1990s. Talk about spoiled.

I need to renew some old connections, rebuild old alliances that have fallen into neglect, and walk alongside the most powerful being in the universe daily. That's a crackpot thing to say, but when you feel the presence, when you can literally see the future and then have it happen moments later, when the world sudden all begins to make sense and that big picture forms, you are at peace.

I Heart You!

I'm lazy. I admit it. I don't want to resize images, crop, blah blah blah. I just want to sit in my comfortable chair and write a bit.

A lot has happened. This is for sure. I'm not really sure how to describe everything that has gone down. I don't know. Just a little bit of a roller coaster ride. Not needing to go into details here. I'm not even sure how to give context or meaning without writing several pages which can be perhaps saved for a 4 am more reflective rant upon myself.

Anyways, last night, The Settler of Catan, Tracy, Jordan, Byron, and I went to dinner at Grisanti's (I really need nifty nicknames for theree of them). The goal of eating at Grisanti's is to stuff the bread in you mouth so quickly that it's all gone before the waitress can leave the table. My bowls of salad, tomato soup and loaf of bread did me well.

After that, Byron and Tracy ditched us, but Stolee and Laura joined us to check out I Heart Huckabees. What a bizarre film. I don't even know what to say about it except to see it now. It was a lot of fun, even if I don't know what to think.

My dad is leaving for Turkey tomorrow. Kinda rough to have him gone for about 4 weeks, but not much you can do about it. Let's hear it for someone who is going to go help give the bad guys hell.

I really, really, really need to start on Paper Mario and Jak III this week. There are some people who want to play these with me, you know who you are. Also we get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which seems so unbelievably cool even my indifference towards the game has been challenged. Then we have next month's Halo 2, Metroid Prime 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Gran Turismo 4, Half-Life 2... Kill me now.

I Heart all of you!

Yeah, some posts are missing

The situation has changed so dramatically it's not even funny.

A lot of posts are missing - they were said in anger and I didn't really mean what I said. It was good to feel some emotion, and now that the anger is out of my system only one emotion remains and it directive has made for this late night post.

It was really weird to drive back in the darkness, see tons of traffic and have the Amigos by my house open

I'm exicted though, I'm amazingly excited. I feel alive right now... I don't know if I can sleep. I guess I better, I have a bunch of things I want to do today.

Happily yours,

Finality

Both have apologized for spreading private info.

I've been really angry on this blog, and if I hurt her, I want her to know I didn't mean what I said. I was extremely angry, and that's subsided now.

Congratulations Travicon and The Laa!

My good buddy Travicon (and the good twin of the two of us) informed me today that he is engaged to The Laa. All I have to say is way to go man.

The date is set for April 30th, meaning if I attempt to get to his wedding, I'll be there for the weekend, then back in L.A. a couple weeks later for a week or so to attend E3, and then from there down to Valdosta, GA for Troy's wedding. Then off to Europe?

Oi... going to be a wild summer.

Team America.... FUCK YEAH!

Caught Team America last night. Awesome flick. There is a character named Joe who was the quarterback at Nebraska, kind of a cool ref, and the way it makes fun of the Hollywood celebs, Peter Jennings, and Michael Moore was priceless. Hans Blix had a great scene as well.

Also, regarding the puppet sex, one of those scenes doesn't even seem very possible to me. But hey, what do I know?

Husker Power

It's been a weekend of Husker Sports, starting with the Red-White Baseball Scrimmage. I love the Husker baseball team, and more importantly college baseball in general (much better than MLB). The fall Red-White series is a chance to see the team one last time before the spring.

IMG_0469.jpg

Haymarket Park is where Nebraska plays its games - it's also a minor league ballpark. In the background is Memorial Stadium, the Haymarket District of downtown, the train yards and then the rest of downtown Lincoln. It's a beautfiul place to watch a ball game.

IMG_0473.jpg

Alex Gordon rounds the bases after hitting the first home run of the series to deep left center.

Then it was on to the football game on Saturday. Nebraska was playing the Big XII Doormat that is Baylor. It was a huge get well soon game for the Huskers.

IMG_0488.jpg

Stolee made it to his one game of the year and left in the third quarter, poor guy just can't get the football vibe going.

IMG_0489.jpg

I hope me holding my camera shows up in his picture.

IMG_0490.jpg

PongX is about to grab your head! Look out!

IMG_0491.jpg

See the moment when a smile turns into a scowl.

IMG_0500.jpg

Holy shit! Did Mindsmith come back from Canada for a game without telling us, or is this just a very good look-a-like?

IMG_0506.jpg

Li'l Red performs a stunt with the cheerleaders.

Nebraska won 59-27 and Joe Dailey set passing records for yardage in a game for Nebraska. Unfortunately, the defense gave up 27 points to a shitty team. Should be an interesting game down in Manhattan this next weekend.

Linkification

So there are links to the important blogs you should read. Check them out, some good stuff there, though I don't vouch for how often they're updated (damn you Tom Rice, where have you gone?!).

I'll leave you with this little bit of fun:

I go to parties sometimes until four....

I've been finding it difficult to go to sleep recently. I'm not entirely sure why. I know one major component has been my copy of Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal - but the other major component is the fact that I just am not sleeping well. Combine this with the two days of the week where I have to get up at 6:30 am and I feel kinda out of it right now. Definitely not my favorite experience at the moment, just kinda zoned. Almost fell asleep on the lounge couch here.

I got a haircut yesterday, my head feels lighter. Tomorrow night is Seinfeld and hanging with Stolee, Saturday is the Baylor game, Saturday night is Team America? Should be a fun time. I have some pictures from this afternoon, not sure when I'll post, maybe later.

Bush, Yankees win

Rudy Guiliani took a gamble - he missed his beloved New York Yankees playing the Cursed Boston Red Sox in order to watch President Bush debate Senator Kerry. His great risk paid off, as the Yankees won and so did Bush in my mind.

I thought Bush won on points (probably taking 9-10 of the questions, tying on another 5-6) but also in style. He seemed relaxed and finally happy to actually be there. Kerry just seem tired and repeated the same lines from the previous debates.

Regardless, it wasn't a huge win for Bush, but it was enough of one. Now we're in the final days of this campaign, should be interesting to say the least.

Oh and the Yankees won too. I saw a interview with Giuliani where there was clearly a TV sitting next to him so he could watch while being interviewed --- he clearly winced at the exact moment the first (and only) Red Sox run scored.

Anyways, I've got two tests to study for and I haven't done any studying yet. Gonna be an interesting day tomorrow.

Yankees Win!

The Yankees won tonight. They were up 8-0, and Moose was pitching a perfect game through 16 outs, then he gave up four runs, Sturtz/Gordon a couple more, and it's 8-7 with the tying run on third and two outs. Mo came in and got the Yanks out of the jam, they add a couple insurance runs and a 1-6-3 Double Play ends the game.

God it was fun to see Shilling get Shelled though "I like shutting up Yankee fans" ---- eat it.

Sleepy

Didn't sleep too well last night (big surprise). I was having a problem getting to the tired point, I was pissed off at my studying and people who well, irritate me to say the least.

I went to my room and fired up Up Your Arsenal. Nothing makes me feel better than running into a room, throwing down my own one-way shield, launching attack robots, dropping a couple automatic turrets, then pulling up a sniper rifle and sniping what's left over. God I love Ratchet and Clank. It literally ranks up in my favorite game series of all time.

I ended up lying down for about two hours. I got a little bit of sleep, but none of it was solid. I seem to remember the clock in 15 minute intervals or something of that nature. My best moment of sleep was the last fifteen minutes before my alarm and I got deepest into sleep right as the alarm went off... go fucking figure.

I'm now laying here just waiting for a class... nothing going on on the internet, nothing to write about right now, decided I'd toss some thoughts on here.

Apparently the Red/White baseball scrimmage series is this week. I'm definitely down with that. There is a game today, but it's a bit chilly outside and I have class. Thursday I have tests. I guess I better go get my Husker Baseball fill on Wed/Fri/Sat(?). The Yanks play the Red Sox tonight.

Saw Shark Tale with Knappster last night. Decent movie, nothing really spectacular. Felt like a watered down Finding Nemo or something as far as funniness goes. Came off well as a mobster movie though. I think the funniest part was in the credits when the insane hermit crab pops out, stops the credit roll and pounds on someone's name and says "Why is he in the credits? He was barely in the movie. Always on the phone all the time, yap yap yap." Course, it's funny because the crab was fucking psycho in the movie (in a good way).

I think I'll try to nap now. Yay for long class days --- boy am I glad it is fall break this weekend.

115 years to produce a day like Saturday

Saturday hurt a lot. 70-10. Absolutely amazing. I never thought I'd see it happen. There aren't many words that can describe the pain of something like that. Corny it may sound, but it feels like losing something you know you're never going to get back. Maybe I put too much stock in the Cornhuskers, but it really is like a family member to me in some ways. I really do care for the team, and I hope they perform well. I'll be there for Baylor and I'll cheer my fucking head off like usual. I hope the rest of Memorial Stadium follows suit.

I had a bunch of people over for brats tonight. It was a good time and I think bringing the Kauffmanites out of K-Town for a little home grilling away from the laptops, accounting and software enginneering is therapeutic in some ways. It was a fun time.

I have 3 tests this week, History of Rock, Organizational Behavior, and Multicultural Education. I don't know what to expect from the lattermost, but it'll be a fun week of studying stuff.

Friday night I'm going to see Jerry Seinfeld at the Lied Center. Should be a great time and I'm looking forward to being 10 ft. from the man who's comedy show I can quote more than perhaps any other.

Saturday is the Get-well Nebraska game as the Baylor Bears come to town. Stolee is going to be in town over Fall Break so I should get to hang out with him over the weekend.

Other random news, my copy of Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal showed up. Amazing game so far. I'm just happy to finally get to play it as it's been 6 months since I saw it at Insomniac's office in Burbank.

Catch up update today, hopefully something more substantive tomorrow.

Col. Hank Keirsey, badass

One of the main parts of this weekend in San Francisco was the paintball event. The two military advisors, Hank Keirsey and John Hillen were there to teach us about World War II weapons and tactics.

Hillen is actually the on-air ABC Military Correspondent and also a Contributing Editor to the National Review - which was very cool in that he was liveblogging during the vice presidential debate (Cheney won I think) and I was reading the NRO blog. Kinda cool when we figured that out at the bar after the debate and then talked politics for a while. He was surprised someone of my age reads NRO, but hey, I like surprising people.

John was cool, but Hank was the man. This guy is a one man military machine. He was telling us some great stories about some of the government work he was contracted to do (only in vague references though, you could tell he couldn't talk a lot). He talked Iraq and how he thought the media was making it out to be a lot worse then it was and was giving specific examples of when stories had been distorted by the media - no surprise.

Anyways, Hank taught us some military tactics and he and I worked pretty well together in paintball. Except he went shirtless, when I said this guy is hardcore, I mean it. He was charging enemy positions and being very aggressive.

Campic.jpg

Me and Hank, notice the bruises on Hank's chest. This doesn't even show the bleeding arm he had.

IMG_0435.jpg

Neil wrote me a note for missing my test.

IMG_0436.jpg

Here's all of us.

It was a lot of fun, and Hank was a great guy to hang out with. Hopefully I'll run into him again.

San Francisco time!

So I was in San Francisco for the past couple of days for a little Call of Duty: Finest Hour get together. It was a good time, and I had two incredible steaks, a couple pints of beer, some awesome wine, and a very nice 20-year port where I could taste the oak from the barrel. Absolutely amazing stuff.

One of my favorite moments of the whole trip though was this painting that was in the private room where we had dinner the first night.

IMG_0432.jpg

There is so much sexual suggestiveness/hooking up going on in that picture it is amazing. Maybe it was just amazing after the booze. You decide.

While I never had a chance to be out of meetings during the day, or even at night, I managed to snap some pictures from the bus, sorry about the iffy quality, but I thought it was a beautiful day in the Bay Area.

IMG_0437.jpg

The bay as we're coming back in. You can see Alcatraz and the GOlden Gate Bridge (we're on the Bay Bridge).

IMG_0442.jpg

View of downtown.

IMG_0444.jpg

The Bay Bridge.

Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the massive amount of hotel protestors that were making insane amounts of noise outside of the hotels so that no one could sleep as of 6 am each morning. It was crazy. Fortunately, the Drake didn't have protestors and they put me in a back room (no view, but I could sleep, so I'll take it).

Crepe time!

Nothing brings people together like the Koala making crepes. Stolee made some filling, there was nutella, whipped creme, and powdered sugar as well. You'd be surprised how busy the kitchen can get.

IMG_0429.jpg

Notice the various foodstuffs and what we're doing with them.

From another angle.

George says you must eat the crepes.... or he'll hold the world hostage for ONE BILLLLLLLLIOOOON DOLLARS!

36 years of being our whipping boy

Last weekend was the Kansas game. You can imagine my absolute distress when I saw one of the freshmen in the hallway looking like this:

IMG_0414.jpg

It says Arkansas, right? Unfortunately not. She decided her old family affiliation was more important than her school. This w00ttastic move angered the football gods greatly, causing me some indigestion and her a hard time from well, everyone.

After this moment I headed over to the band practice to listen to the Pride of All Nebraska warm up.

IMG_0415.jpg

Is it wrong that I get goosebumps when I hear Hail Varsity?

IMG_0419.jpg

Apparently peer pressure does work! Now Katie is where Husker gear and you can tell it is cold outside (no, it's because they are snuggling and under a coat you silly pervert). Also, I'm not entirely sure when this pictures was taken, I was into the game and someone grabbed my camera.

Nebraska won as well, even though it wasn't the prettiest thing ever (a safety 12 seconds in... I was getting Arizona State vibes).

One other thing, a frat/sorority block tried to start the wave in the 3rd quarter when we were up by 6. I was literally going to kill someone had they been successful. Needless to say, those houses are now on my shit list - particularly the guy in the middle who was the ring-leader.

Hanging out in Catan

There is a game that is very popular amongst us called Settlers of Catan(Beermann recently blogged about it). I have been miserable at this game for quite a while.

IMG_0408.jpg

But I finally came in second in a game, and then the next night won, beating the Matt Johnson who has dominated this game as long as I've played it. I managed to twice in the game build a settlement and in the same turn build it into a city. I was a lucky bastard. I also drew a road building development card just in time to get the Longest Road card and prevent Johnson from winning with those points. Fun game, and I like it more now that I've tasted success.

Shopping is fun (Tracy roars!!!!!)

Last weekend we went for a late night Wal-Mart run (well, it wasn't TOO late) to go get foodstuffs in order for Nick's crepes over the weekend. Sound good you say?

IMG_0396.jpg

Here we all are, shopping away.

On the way back, Nick prevented Tracy from leaving the elevator on the second floor. The rest is better shown in pictures.

Nick, you're a fool my friend.
