Holy crap that sucked
I just got done watching the Oscars, and I have never been so bored by an Oscars presentation. I was even more annoyed when Al Gore took the stage for an Inconvenient Truth's win despite not being nominated. After all of these years of the Academy being so strict about not letting extra folks on stage, only three producers being nominated per film, they just drop all of that shit and let him up there. WTF?
Anyways, I understand why (living here, it's liberal ya know), but it still is annoying.
Another weird aspect of the Oscars is knowing that they were happening about 3-4 miles from here, and knowing I could be there in 15-20 minutes if I wanted to. Apparently my friends saw a ton of limos and Town Cars on the way home tonight, carrying with them the rich and the famous to all of the incredible parties that'll be happening tonight.
Besides that, I recently got into the Lord of the Rings Online beta. It's pretty much WoW with the LOTR universe, and it's addictive as hell. I'm really, really enjoying it, as is my hobbit, Talabald the Wary.
Other than that, I spent Saturday at a Clippers game followed by a wrap party for a movie. Skyler and I had a pretty good time getting tipsy, meeting some fun folk, and playing a few rounds of Frogger.
I have another week at work ahead of me, going to be uber busy. Then next week I'm off to the Game Developer's Conference!

Licking my wounds
Just got back from a couple days in San Diego. Saturday was a ton of fun with Rachael and Skyler at the Wild Animal Park and then my friend Jeb Haught (freelance writer extraordinaire).
Sunday was a bit more interesting, and it didn't play out the way I thought it was going to. In fact, it's one of those matters where I guess the timing wasn't exactly right.
Still, you make moves based on the information given to you at the time. I'm a little disappointed that things didn't work out the way I wanted them to, however, I'm more than happy to move along.
So I drove home in the rain, throwing curse words at the terrible Californian drivers that drop 20 miles an hour at the slightest hint of water falling from the sky. I jammed out to Mest, which seemed to be the perfect music for the time. Life was good once again.
Can't be too concerned about yesterday when you don't know what will be happening in the next week. So here's to a good week.

Super Sunday
Life has been a blur these past few months, and I've greatly neglected this blog. I had a few random musings while taking my shower and I figured I should inform the few of you that still have an RSS subscription to this neglected space.
Brazil
As you may have read on Johnson's blog, we're going to Brazil in May. The whole situation came about based on a timeshare that a relative couldn't use. Now, considering Africa vs. South America, it seemed at the time the South America would make for a better weeklong trip. And Northeastern Brazil also seemed like it was the perfect weeklong destination.
Not so fast though. I didn't realize what a gigantic pain in the ass it is to get to Fortaleza from the US. Apparently it's mainly a European getaway (which is cool, less Americans FTW), but it essentially involves 24 hours of flying - the same amount that Africa would have. Sort of funny, one itenerary I saw took me from LAX to Portugal and then to Brazil.
So far it has worked out, Johnson and Steven figured out they could save money by flying to LAX and then flying with me on the same itenerary, plus it will make the 24-hours go by that much faster.
I'm excited though because I think the vacation where we can sit under the thatched umbrellas while a waiter brings us fruity drinks sounds pretty god damn appealing. In addition, a day trip to Jericoacoara, said by many to be the best beach in the entire world, is on our agenda.
The only aspect I'm slightly worried about is arriving in Fortaleza at 3am. I probably need to find some sort of hotel accomodations so we can crash. I ultimately know I want to be ready to hit the clubs that Saturday night, so it'll be interesting getting the body to adjust.
But enough about the first big vacation.
February holidays
So we just passed groundhog day, the groundhog didn't see its shadow and it promptly went from the low 50s to 78 degrees here in Los Angeles. Maybe there is actually something to it. Sorry to all you folks in Nebraska freezing your asses off.
Valentine's Day approaches soon, and it's almost aggravating in a way. I'm the sort of person that likes to be prepared for any eventuality, especially when I'm in the early, but promising stages of dating someone. You never know what exactly will happen - but I like to be prepared. Now it's look like V-Day will be a guy's night in, which is ok, but sort of a let down after what seemed like a great start.
President's Day is exciting --- because I get it off! The current plan revolves around camping in the desert somewhere. I got a new tent for Christmas and I haven't had the chance to use it. I'm hopeful that when the sun begins to stay up longer I'll be able to get more weekend camping trips in, but for now, unless I want to go for one night (and considering the dirve that can be a pain), I have to time these trips with three days weekends.
Technology woes
My Xbox 360 finally bit the dust, proving the theory that if you got an early one, it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when. Fortunately, even though it is out of warranty, Microsoft is still repiaring it for me. The only downside is I can't tend to my Pinata garden and that pisses me off.
My cell phone's IM sucks ass... my messages have stopped appearing. I have no idea why this is, but it makes it mostly unusable. I was trying to mess around with it last night and install something new, but I didn't find a program and got distracted by a shiny object. At least I have the software installed on my PC now to modify things on it!
Finally, my laptop is starting to give up the ghost. I've already replaced the hard drive, but I believe the graphics card and/or motherboard are beginning to go. Considering it needs a new battery, stylus and power cord as well, I'm thinking I might be better off just putting that 500-600 into something new. I'm notoriously hard on laptops, I put them to a lot of use, and this one has served me well. I'm really considering replacing it with a Mac, but we will see. Unfortunately plane tickets to Brazil have crimped my current budget, but if these freelancing checks show up I might be able to afford a Macbook sooner rather than later.
Weight loss eXtreme
One thing I noticed while I was home was the fact that everyone who hadn't seen me for 4-5 months was commenting that "hey, you gained a few." Now it was polite ribbing, but the sum eventually pissed me off. I didn't think I had gained THAT much weight working at Insomniac (home of the Insomniac 15).
Turns out, I was wrong. I guess I should've known by the frequent In-N-Out runs I was making towards the end of Resistance, too stressed to worry about food and just wanting something quick, greasy and easy.
I had planned to get back into a workout routine over my post-production vacation, knowing that while I was at home I would have much more downtime and a gym very close. I figured if I could get past that initial hill, it would be easier for me to really keep it going when I got home.
After a couple of days, I stepped on a scale and was literally shocked. I hadn't ever seen a 2 leading off my three digits (though fortunately the other two digits were both 0s). It became my goal to lose not only the Insomniac 15, but another 20 on top of it.
Enter Skyler Caleb, my long-time actor friend you may know from The Office and Will & Grace. He put me on his diet regime that he went on after his weight gains from 14 meals at Taco Bell a week.
After 5 weeks, I've lost 16 pounds, almost nearly halfway to my goal. It's been a huge struggle, I've had some hiccups on the way (rough weeks where finding time to work out was difficult to the roommate suggesting a late-night Double Double), but overall, I'm pretty proud of how far I've gotten.
/Mega Update
That should bring you up to speed on a lot of things.
Don't say I never blog.
